Looking at data taken from Freedom Boat Club’s global operation, the ratio of those new to boating when joining comprised just over one-third in 2021.  Encouraging indicators suggest the service is consistently growing its ratio of women (35 percent of membership in 2022).

As the popularity for boating and water-based activities continues to grow the recent launch of Freedom Boat Club Torquay, makes this the only boat club servicing the Torbay area. Based on Beacon Quay, the Freedom clubhouse overlooks the beautiful bay and Torquay Marina. An ideal base to embark on all kinds of boating adventures, it’s just a short hop away from some of the most picturesque spots in the southwest. Expect an abundance of marine life, including seals, dolphins, plus numerous seabirds who populate the nearby islands.

The fleet at Torquay currently consists of three Zodiac RIBS, a 5.5m Gulf Stream Limited Edition and two larger 6.8m Medline as well as a Quicksilver 705 Pilot House, which is certainly set to pique the interest of fishing fans. Perfect for angling and relaxed cruising, it provides protection from any weather thanks to its cabin; a great choice for families and those who appreciate a little extra comfort. Torbay is well known for its diverse marine life and fishing is popular locally for pollock, mackerel, bass and tuna, as well as exploring the many gorgeous bays along the coastline. All boats are powered by the latest Mercury outboards, and as more members join, additional boats will be added.

An impressive 385+ Freedom locations worldwide provide a straightforward route to unlimited boating, reciprocal club access, full training, plus all the tasks that boat ownership brings are carried out by the team. Joining the superb choice of clubs that members can enjoy, the popular boating haven of Torquay needs no introduction, benefitting from well-protected waters and miles of breath-taking scenery.

Members can discover the delights of The English Riviera in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, which are all within easy reach and where entertainment and shopping abound. Often referred to as ‘England’s Seafood Coast’, there are a number of fantastic restaurants, some Michelin star, serving fresh seafood straight from the local waters. Brixham is filled with local charm, heritage blends with natural beauty in Paignton, while in Torquay the lovely beaches at Babbacombe and Oddicombe are well protected with long stretches of sand. From the wonderful UNESCO Global Geopark, to magical history at Torre Abbey and the architecture of Cockington Court, there are countless attractions to discover amidst the exotic palm trees of the southwest. Watersports lovers are also well catered for and many hotspots boast turquoise water in the summer; you could almost mistake it for the South of France.

Oliver Patterson, Club Manager, at Torquay commented, “We are looking forward to welcoming Freedom Boat Club members to enjoy the charms of Torquay. The sheltered waters and stunning coastal views provide perfect cruising grounds for all types of leisure boaters, and we’re excited to introduce new and veteran boaters alike to everything Torquay has to offer through the ease and accessibility of Freedom.”

The summer beckons, with fun times ahead and even more chances to get on the water as a member of Freedom Boat Club. Since 2021, five fabulous locations have opened across the UK, including Portsmouth, Hythe Marina Village, Loch Lomond and Windermere, further underpinning that club membership is an increasingly preferred way to enjoy marine activities. Torquay is another brilliant location to enjoy boating made simple together with family and friends.
