Local Watersports Centre Raising Funds for H.M Coastguard

After a busy winter of renovation works a local watersports centre has embarked on a new scheme to raise funds for H.M Coastguard.  Broadsands Beach Watersports Centre is has now opened its new changing rooms, toilet and showers to the general public – with the aim of raising funds for this vital emergency service.

For £2 – which includes a 50p donation to the Coastguard – beach users can take advantage of newly refurbished changing rooms, lockers and a hot shower.

Post-Covid times have seen a huge surge in the number of people using the wonderful local coastline for open water swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding and nowhere more-so than Broadsands Beach in Paignton and the introduction of these new changing rooms and shower facilities will certainly be of benefit to watersports participants – particularly in spring, autumn and winter – when a nice warm shower and changing rooms are ideal after some time on the water.

The newly developed changing rooms are situated in the old disused toilet block beneath the newly renovated Venus Café in a space that had previously stood derelict for a number of years.

The space provides both male and female changing rooms,  separate shower room and WC – free to use lockers are also available.

A wide range of Dryrobes, RipCurl wetsuits and water safety equipment like buoyancy aids and tow floats are also available.

The changing rooms are perfect for individuals, families, groups and clubs and early morning and late evening slots are available.

“Initially we redeveloped the changing rooms for the sole use of our customers, but to be honest they are so nice it seems a shame not to make them more widely available.  So it seemed like a logical step to open them to the general public and a 50p donation for each use to the Coastguard is a win/win situation.  Over 16 seasons here at the beach we have developed close links with the guys at Brixham Coastguard Station and trying to raise funds for them is our way of saying thank you for all their efforts – their importance with regards to water safety cannot be underestimated in a coastal environment, and we are just trying to do our bit to help”.
